Sitting and Sciatica are closely related. The discs in the spine function as cushions between the bones in the spine. These are considered to be viscoelastic. The discs contain a fluid-like substance and when sitting for extended periods of time, the liquid inside the discs is pushed out, causing them to flatten. Degeneration can magnify this. When this happens, the disc burlges and can place pressure on the spinal nerve causing the symptoms associated with sciatica.
